Locals excel at Pelluer Invite

The Eastern Washington University track and field team had successful marks throughout the day at the 46th Annual Pelluer Invitational April 14 with Medical Lake freshman Lexi Rolan and sophomore Keshun McGee leading the way by taking first in each of their respective events.

Rolan, a freshman, swept her three events finishing first in the 200 meters with a time of 25.37 seconds and in the long jump with a mark of 19 feet, 5 1/2 inches. Rolan also tied for first with Eastern's senior Rebecca Tarbert in the 100 meters with a time of 12.37.

McGee took first in his two events, the long jump with a 23-8 1/4 and triple jump at 51-2 1/4..

Senior Erin Clark from Cheney also made history at Roos Field by taking first in the pole vault for the third-straight time at the Pelluer, clearing 12 feet, 8 3/4 inches. Clark is the first student-athlete in Pelluer History on the women's side to be crowned the pole vault champion three times in their career.

"We had some amazing performances today and it was good to see some different universities competing at the Pelluer," women's head coach Marcia Mecklenburg said. "That is what we need at this time of the year, continued improvement and movement up on those Big Sky lists."

In team scoring, EWU swept on both the men and women's sides against Portland State and Gonzaga University. In men's competition EWU's 117 points topped Portland State 69. Eastern outscored Gonzags 130-39. Eastern's women beat GU 103-58 and PSU 100-58.
