Card girls tennis win first match

Paced by wins in a pair of doubles matches, Medical Lake’s girls claimed their first Northeast A League victory in 2018, 3-2 over Newport on April 12

In No. 2 doubles, Stasia Hurt-Moran and Grace Remendowski scored a 6-1, 6-3 win over Emily Bronkhorst and Emily Martin, while Lissa Hartwell and Henna Vandingenen

scored a 6-1, 6-1 win over Henna Elizabeth O’ Neal and Aubrey Miller. Heather Barr won a No. 2 singles battle with Lydia Jurgens 6-4, 6-4.

“The girls played incredibly well,” co-head coach Jake Wesselman said. “They braved the tougher points and showed poise when needed.”

The Cardinals were defeated 5-0 at Freeman on April 11 and are 1-2 in NEA play according to standings found on the league website.

Also last week, the Medical Lake boys dropped a pair of 3-2 decisions to Freeman and Newport.

In the loss April 9 at Freeman, Bradley Kenady defeated Eric Flack 6-0, 6-1 for one Medical Lake win in No. 2 singles. Zach Rojas and Ty Landsdowne earned a forfeit victory at No. 3 doubles.

Noah Ray defeated Cameron Whittle 6-0, 6-0 at No. 1 singles for one victory. Kurtis Kenady and Bradley Kenady teamed to top Dawson Baldwin and John Carlson, 6-4, 6-0 in No. 2 doubles.

“The boys had a great matchup today,” Wesselman said. Our No. 1 singles player brought us a win right off the bat.”

The Cardinal boys fell to 1-3 in NEA competition.
