Delaney Hodgins adds name to record book

In the span of one week, Eastern Washington University basketball teams had two brand new all-time scoring records broken.

The most recent came Feb. 1 when Delaney Hodgins became the EWU womens' basketball all-time leading scorer, lifting the team to an 83-76 Big Sky Conference victory over Sacramento State.

Hodgins needed 15 points to break the record, set by her older sister and former teammate Hayley Hodgins nearly two years ago. Hodgins broke her big sister's record of 1,865 in the second quarter and never looked back, putting up 28 points on the night and adding 10 rebounds for a double-double.

"Tonight was special. I feel blessed to have coached both Hodgins' sisters. I'm happy for Delaney and I hope we can make this a year to remember too," head coach Wendy Schuller said. "We never needed her to be a big-time scorer early on in her career, but she stepped up when we needed her too."

It was on Jan. 25 that Bogdan Bliznyuk passed Venky Jois as Eastern Washington University's men's basketball career leader in scoring. Jois' record stood at 1,803 but Bliznyuk's 3-pointer just over a minute into the game moved him into the lead at 1,805.
