Bliznyuk is new EWU scoring king

Quick 3-pointer lets senior surpass Venky Jois as all-time leading scorer

It took very little time, just over 1 minute, for Bogdan Bliznyuk to connect on a nothing-but-net 3-point shot that elevated him past former leader, and teammate, Venky Jois as Eastern Washington University's men's basketball career leader in scoring. The milestone came Jan. 25 in EWU's 95-71 Big Sky Conference victory over North Dakota at Reese Court. Jois' record stood at 1,803 with Bliznyuk coming into the game at 1,802. Bliznyuk, seen here with associate athletics director Pam Parks, received a souvenir photo and ball to commemorate the feat.

He may have gone off script, but Bogdan Bliznyuk did a great job of ad-libbing as he broke the all-time scoring record for Eastern Washington University men's basketball.

According to Eagles' radio play-by-play voice, Larry Weir, the original plan for Bliznyuk to score the two points needed to surpass his former teammate, Venky Jois' 1,803 points was to receive an Alley-oop pass from someone and throw down a thundering jam on their first possession.

As it turned out, the University of North Dakota must have insider-trading information which allowed Jack Perry to score the Eagles' first two...
