Village Centre Cinemas holds Film Scholarship Contest

People who have any interest in the film industry will have a chance to show off their skills in the upcoming Film Scholarship Contest through the Village Centre Cinemas company. This marks the first year that the competition is being held.

“We were looking at ways to get involved with the community,” Kim LiVecchi, Village Centre Cinemas marketing director said. “A lot of my friends from high school are still in the film industry and we thought this was a way for people who are excited about film to show off their skills. We think this is a fun way to get creative and involved in the community.

The theme of the short film centers on reasons why people love going to the movies. There is a time limit of 30-60 seconds and the content needs to be appropriate.

“It is supposed to be fun and exciting for the people participating,” LiVecchi said.

All films being submitted will be showcased in April, and are free for the public to attend. Even though the exact location is not confirmed yet, it will most likely be held at the Wandermere movie theater location at 12622 North Division St.

“It is open to everyone in the Spokane area,” LiVecchi said. “We want all different kind of students from Eastern, Gonzaga and high schools to participate.”

Even though it is the first time, LiVecchi hopes to extend the competition to the Pullman and Lewiston area for next year.

The winner of the competition will received a $1,000 scholarship that will go towards paying for a university. People can already be enrolled or the funds can be held until the winner decides on which college they want to attend,

This may just be the tip of the iceberg for LiVecchi as she hopes to create an internship in the near future for film students as well.

“The film community in Spokane is involved and supports these ideas,” LiVecchi said.

The deadline for entries is Feb. 28 and they can be submitted to LiVecchi at kim@corporatept.com.
