Cheney's Grafious named to Edinboro Univ. hall of fame

Another Blackhawk has recently been inducted into another hall of fame.

Cheney High School 1992 graduate Jon Grafious was inducted into the Edinboro University Hall of Fame during ceremonies on Oct. 13. The Fighting Scots from Edinboro, Penn., are members of the NCAA Division II and belong to the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference.

According to his parents, Philip and Judith Grafious, Jon Grafious swam year round for the Eastern Washington Recreation Association (EWRA) swim team in Cheney. He also swam all four years for the Blackhawks boys' squad, and still holds the school record for the 500-yard freestyle at 4 minutes, 45.90 seconds.

Grafious competed all four years at the Washington Interscholastic Athletics Association state swimming championships, his highest finish being second in the 500 freestyle. Grafious also ran cross country for the Blackhawks.

Signed by Edinboro, Grafious was a 10-time All-American and named to the university's "All-Time Team." According to the Fighting Scots website, he still holds the university record in the 400-yard individual medley and previously held the record in the 200 butterfly, the 200 IM, the 800 freestyle and the 1,650 freestyle.

As a freshman, he was a three-time All-American and finished as a runner-up in the 200 butterfly and 400 IM at the PSAC championships. In 1993-1994, he was a seven-time All-American, earning All-PSAC honors in four events and winning the 400-IM conference championship.

Grafious graduated from Edinboro University in 1996.
