Blackhawks 'pop' at the inaugural Battle of the 509

The official count of runners at the inaugural Battle of the 509 cross country meet last Saturday at Fairways Golf Course was 701, coming from 25 different schools.

How many spectators were there at the meet hosted by the Cheney High School cross country program, head coach Derek Slaughter isn't certain. He is certain that of things to fix before next year's second event, parking tops the list.

"I think the number would be en mass," Slaughter said of the those attending the late afternoon/evening meet.

Those who did were treated to a nicely laid out course for runners and spectators, and so...
