The city of Cheney was proceeding with a civil suit against Myers Mobile Home Park owner Thomas E. Myers, alleging he had failed to comply with an order to install three fire hydrants at his development along West First Street.

The Medical Lake Police Department continued it fundraising efforts in support of the Special Olympics of Washington. The official prize was a Seattle Mariner's basket that included tickets to see the team play the Chicago White Sox.

After winning three straight games to post their first winning record since the 2001 season, Cheney High School's baseball team got win number four for their first playoff win in six years with a 7-5 victory over Medical Lake.

May 22, 1997

The Cheney Free Press and Medical Lake Register editorial staff walked off with five awards in the annual Society of Professional Journalists Inland Northwest Awards contest.

Ralph Walter, Four Winds Christian Academy's principal and fifth through eighth grade teacher made a pact with the 38 students who attend the small school that for every $300 they raised toward their new gymnasium fund, he would spend 24 hours on the school's roof. The students raised around $1,000 and sent Walter up to the roof for three days and nights.

Medical Lake's Kris Campbell qualified for state in golf after posting an 86 in the last tournament of the year. It was the third year in a row that Campbell qualified for state.

May 21, 1987

Approximately 77,400 people passed through the gates of Fairchild Air Force Base for the annual Aerospace Day.

A flowering plum tree was planted at Medical Lake's Waterfront Park in observance of Arbor Day. The Campfire Bluebirds, Jennifer Mitchell, Natalie Brooks, Rachel Meltzer, Leah Meltzer, Courtney Adams, Maggie Mitson, Laurie Hayes, Jacob Meltzer and Corrine Schmidt, planted the tree.

An Eastern Washington University student fell on the outside stairs of the Pence Union Building and was seeking damages from the city of Cheney, a claim the city was rejecting.

May 19, 1977

Members of the Cheney School Board learned that the Cheney Education Association would be negotiating for a 27.4 percent salary increase for the 1977-78 school year.

The Cheney School District School Administration Building Use Ad Hoc Committee put a $51,604 bond issue before the voters for the renovation of the Wren Pierson Building at 312 C St and it earned the support of the city's property committee.

According to the new Medical Lake Town Administrator, Mike McCurdy, there had been work underway at the Medical Lake Town Hall building for almost three weeks. He hoped the renovation and addition project would turn the worn structure into a modern new city government center.

May 18, 1967

Cheney's population had increased by 340 residents according to a Washington state census board report complied by City Clerk Roy G. Foss. The population of Cheney was at 4,456 and the total number of occupied household units was 1,279.

According to word received from state Rep. Alfred Adams, bids were being considered for improvement of highway 10 from Cheney to Tyler.

Tom Musser showed his Shorthorn steer at the Spokane Junior Livestock show and came home with three blue ribbons and $25 in support money.
