Eastern men are home against Sac State, PSU

The Eastern Washington University men’s basketball team is trading the challenges of the road for challenges of protecting the home court.

Coming off a road split in the state of Montana, the Eagles return to Reese Court to host Sacramento State Thursday (Feb. 2) at 6:05 p.m. and Portland State Saturday at 1 p.m.

Eastern sits in third in the Big Sky Conference standings at 6-3 (14-8 overall), with its three league losses by a combined 10 points. Lurking behind the Eagles are the Hornets and Vikings at 4-4 apiece.

Last week, in beating Montana 72-60 and then falling to Montana State 91-90 in overtime, the Eagles’ Jacob Wiley scored 34 points in the loss to MSU, while Bogdan Bliznyuk scored 28 in the win over the Grizzlies.

Eastern women are headed southbound

The Eastern Washington University women’s basketball team is on the road this weekend with a pair of away contests at Sacramento State and Portland State. The trip begins on Thursday (Feb. 2) against the Hornets at 7:05 p.m. and concludes with a Saturday afternoon matchup against the Vikings at 2:05 p.m.

Eastern will look to get back into the win column this week after suffering a 72-61 setback at home against Montana State.

The Eagles are currently 6-3 and sit in fourth place in the Big Sky Conference standings. They are 11-9 overall.

Delaney Hodgins collected her second-straight double-double last Saturday, but it would not be enough to overcome Montana State.

Eagles release 2017 football schedule

New Eastern Washington University head football coach Aaron Best’s head coaching debut will come at Texas Tech in Lubbock on Sept. 2 the school announced Jan. 25. The 11-game schedule is still considered tentative and changes are possible, and game times will be announced this summer.

Eastern opens at home in a rematch against North Dakota State, Sept. 9 and then travels to New York to meet Fordham on Sept. 16 before opening Big Sky play at Montana, Sept. 23. See schedule in West Plains Scoreboard.
