Cards out early at state tennis

Medical Lake’s journey to the state 1A tennis tournament in Yakima didn’t last as long as they would have liked.

The Cardinals’ doubles team of Isiah Farmen and Alex Neder were eliminated after day-one following losses of 6-0, 6-1 to University Prep and Okanogan, 6-4, 6-3.

Noah Ray in singles lasted three matches, falling to Charles Wright Academy 6-1, 6-1, beating Zillah 6-2, 6-2 before being eliminated by Omak 7-5, 6-3.

“The University Prep team finished second in the tournament and the Okanogan team finished fourth, so it was a bit of a tough draw for our boys,” co-head coach Jake Wesselman said of the doubles competition.

Ray had the opportunity to play on center court against Zillah.

“The best part is that he’s just a sophomore, so he’s had a taste of the possibilities and I have no doubt that will motivate him in the upcoming seasons,” Wesselman said.
