The Medical Lake School District and the city of Medical Lake were in discussions as to how they might team up to fund an upgraded restroom facility at Reinking Field costing about $40,000.

The area adjacent to Denny’s Harvest Food in Medical Lake would soon be home to a new restaurant and a financial institution, owner Denny McDaniel said.

Medical Lake will be looking for a new director of athletics following the move of Tricia Smith back to the classroom in the district’s alternative program.

A couple of hundred Eastern Washington University students staged a rally on campus to protest proposed budget cuts, which would affect many organizations and clubs at the school.

Cheney High School baseball coach Terry Regnier remained on duty as a teacher in the classroom, but was suspended as head baseball coach after he allegedly shoved a CHS soccer player during an altercation in a locker room.

May 15, 1986

Clubhouse construction was set to begin at the Fairways Golf Course. A housing development was also slated to surround the 18-hole course.

Hanging baskets of flowers were scheduled to be installed in downtown Cheney along Main Street.

Medica l Lake’s baseball team concluded its Northeast A League season with an undefeated record of 15-0 following a 26-2 win over Newport.

May 13, 1976

Whether or not X-rated films would be allowed to be shown at Eastern Washington State College was the subject of a lawsuit filed by fraternity Theta Chi Epsilon who contends it was wrongly denied the approval to show movies for its “Dirty Film Festival.”

Christine McDermott’s performance of a medley of songs from “Fiddler on the Roof” helped earn her the honor of Miss Cheney 1976.

The city of Cheney’s current expense fund for 1975-76 totaled 5 percent more than the budget estimated allowed, according to city financial officer Jack Bunnel.

May 11, 1966

Cheney Police Chief Wayne Fifield and officer Tom Edwards had tense moments when they responded to a situation at EWSC involving a visitor who was brandishing a firearm.

Cheney High School elected its student body officers for the 1966-67 school year that included Anna Williamson (secretary), Sandi Hoyt (treasurer), Marion Cheever (first vice president) and Pat Snapp (president). Additional students filling openings included George Rosenzweig (business manager), Mike Monman (second vice president) and Mike Cummings (parliamentarian).
