Blackhawks blanked at Pullman

The shots were there, but the connectivity with the back of the net was not in the Cheney High boys soccer team’s 3-0 loss at Pullman April 5.

The Greyhounds scored quickly in the fifth minute, and got some assistance from the Blackhawks on an own goal off a corner kick in the 33rd minute. Pullman added insurance with their final goal eight minutes into the second half.

Cheney managed seven shots on goal to the Greyhounds’ nine, with goalkeeper Dalton Mauzay making six saves for the Blackhawks.

Cheney drops to fourth in Great Northern League action at 2-4, six points and 6-4 overall. The Blackhawks have opportunities to make up ground in the league race this week, hosting Clarkston (0-5, 2-6) Tuesday and traveling to second-place West Valley (4-2, 6-4, 12 points) today (Thursday). Cheney owns victories against both teams, downing the Bantams 4-1 March 22 and the Eagles 2-1 March 24.

West Valley has won all four of its games since that loss, including a 2-1 win over league-leading Pullman and a 1-0 win over third-place East Valley. The Eagles also downed Clarkston and the Greater Spokane League’s Rogers High in non-league play.
