City officials earn voters trust and honor with respect

I appreciated the Free Press article “Cheney voters choose trust and lift levy lid.” (Jan. 7)

With trust there is honor. With honor there is respect.

In my opinion, Proposition 1 (for continual public safety, etc.) passed because of the needs of the Cheney police and fire departments.

In Proposition 1, public safety (police, fire) was emphasized in parenthesis. This made a strong statement in believing that these two departments would take top priority in having their needs met first before any other department. The police and fire departments are the true source of public safety. And to give them less than top priority in meeting their needs and requests is to lose public trust. We’ll see what happens in May 2016.

To lose trust is to lose honor. To lose honor is to lose respect.

Cheney is too good to lose trust and honor. May the city officials give priority first to the Cheney Police Department and the Cheney Fire Department.
