Postseason future rests with Cardinals

If the Medical Lake girl’s volleyball team wants to reach the postseason, their fate rests in their own hands.

Following a pair of 3-0 Northeast A League losses last week to Newport at home and Freeman on the road, the team’s sixth consecutive losses, the Cards face a pair of winnable matches, at home this past Tuesday against winless Riverside (0-12 NEA, 0-14 overall) and on the road tonight, Oct. 29 at Chewelah (3-9, 3-10).

“Last week we had a tough game against Freeman and we really battled with them,” Cardinals’ head coach Kari Knowlton said. “We are excited to play in the last two games of the season and see where it leads us.”

Taylor Fritz’s 10 kills and Claire Dormaier’s 11 digs were not enough as Medical Lake (1-11, 1-11) lost 10-25, 14-25 and 13-25 to Newport. Fritz had seven kills and six digs two nights later as Freeman won 25-15, 25-6 and 25-13.
