Eastern wins in overtime over Cal Poly

Eagles rally from 15 points down for nailbiting victory

Great rallies are now becoming commonplace for Eastern Washington University football and the Eagles staged another one for the books last Saturday.

No. 8 ranked Eastern erased a 15-point deficit in the fourth quarter and then answered first in overtime to claim a 42-41 Big Sky Conference football victory at sold out Roos Field.

Eastern scored on its first play of overtime as Kendrick Bourne raced around the right side for a 25-yard touchdown on a pass into the flat from Jordan West. The Eagles kicked the extra point and then went on defense.

The Mustangs punched the ball across from the 1 on their first drive, but when they went for a two-point conversion to win it the ball was fumbled out of bounds and it was game over. Eastern improved to 2-0 in conference play and 3-2 overall while Cal Poly is 1-2 in BSC and 2-4 overall.

The Eagles needed a touchdown from Nick Sblendorio with 57 seconds to play, plus a two-point conversion - which they got from Terry Jackson II - to tie the game.

Next up is a road game against former EWU coach Mike Kramer at Idaho State this Saturday, Oct. 17 at 1:35 p.m. at Holt Arena in Pocatello.

"There's no doubt about it, they're gong to be ready for us," Baldwin said at the weekly EWU Coaches Show.

"I've seen it with him that you better expect the best, you better know that no matter what's happened to them the first few weeks, he can get things turned around like no one else," Baldwin said.
