Large field set for 52nd Lilac Invite

The field for the 52nd Lilac City Invitational Golf Tournament, played July 9-12 at The Fairways Golf Course, will have a field of both professionals and amateurs that has increased significantly, general manager and head professional, Kris Kallem said.

"We're now at 72 which is up 13 from last year and ties our record participation from 2013," Kallem wrote in a news release. The tournament, the only 72-hole event in the Northwest, gets going at 9 a.m. each day and will pay the winner as much as $8,000.

In addition to bigger numbers, the field also includes some familiar names, notably defending champion, Tony Robydek and 2012's professional winner Michael Roters. Other names include Manito Country Club Assistant Corey Prugh and perennial contenders, Kevin Pomarleau and Jason Humphrey.

The course is going to present its share of challenges with both greens and roughs. "The greens will be double cut, rolled, and fast," Kallem said. Roughs are being grown out and will penalize errant shots he added.

Spectator passes are $10 per day or $15 for the weekend, include parking, a beverage ticket and are available for purchase in the clubhouse. Net proceeds from spectator passes go to support the Shriners Hospitals for Children – Spokane.

Special entertainment on Thursday includes the band "Smash Hit Carnival," playing at 6 p.m.

Kallem said there are also other activities for spectators such as a Thursday night wedge contest, a long drive contest and a 50/50 cash putting competition.
