Cheney loses to Colville in districts

Colville eliminated Cheney from the District 7 2A volleyball tournament with a 3-0 shutout, putting to rest a strong year for the Blackhawks team.

Cheney faced Deer Park and Pullman in two separate games Nov. 6 in the first round of district matches, narrowly defeating Deer Park 3-0 but then being shut out by Pullman.

Senior Ashley Seiler had 19 kills in the first match, but fell to 10 in the second, limited by the Pullman defense. Senior Kinsey Pease had a strong performance against Deer Park, turning in 32 assists, but dropped to 19 in the second match that evening.

Against Deer Park, the trio of junior Kimber Case, senior Morgan Davis and Pease turned in two aces. Case took charge against Pullman, scoring three aces. Senior Shay Turner did her part against Pullman, making 13 digs to help the team.

In the Nov. 9 game against Colville, Cheney got off to a slow start, losing the first set 25-18. The Blackhawks quickly rebounded, though, closing the second set gap to 25-23 before falling in the third set 25-14. Seiler had 15 kills, Pease made 26 assists and Davis and Seiler had 11 digs. Davis and Seiler were limited to just one ace each in the game.

Although the team saw its season come to a close, three of the departing seniors received league accolades for their strong performance this year. Seiler was named to First Team, Pease was named to Second Team and Davis was an Honorable Mention.
