Cardinal soccer team seeks first win, goals

Medical Lake girls’ soccer coach Zane Higgins knew it might be a challenging season blending many new faces with his existing roster.

And so far, three games into the season, all nonleague, the Cardinals head into Northeast A League play seeking both their first victory, and goal. ML hosts Freeman next Tuesday, Oct. 1 and then Newport, Thursday, Oct. 3, both at 4 p.m. at the soccer field at Medical Lake High School.

“It takes a little bit extra time to get over the basic stuff,” Higgins said. “It takes longer to get to the point we want to get to.”

The Cardinals were shutout 6-0 last Saturday by visiting Colville of the 2A Great Northern League. Mia Luu scored the first and third goals of the game in the ninth and 15th minute. Colville launched 20 shots on goal with Medical Lake keeper Hannah Hartman stopping 13.

In earlier games, the Cards were beaten by Rogers 7-0 in their opener Sept. 14 and then 8-0 at Deer Park, Sept. 16.
