Blackhawk boys finish seventh at Ray Cross Invitational

The Cheney boys’ track and field team split up to gain experience in a pair of multi-team invitational meets last Saturday. The bulk of the Blackhawks traveled to the Columbia Basin for the Ray Cross Invitational in Ephrata, finishing seventh overall out of 26 schools.

Tom Trude led the Blackhawks on the track, finishing third in the 200-meter dash in 24.01 seconds. Jesse Hallstrom was fourth in the 800 in 2:02.61 with Kyle Lerch sixth in the 3,200 in 10:11.17.

Calvin Berstler was 10th in the 300 hurdles in 44.08, with the 4x400 relay team of Trude, Hallstrom, Carson Kerr and Lerch eighth in 3:50.37. In the field Eric Igbinoba was the only Blackhawk with a top-10 finish, third in the triple jump at 41 feet, 7 1/2 inches and fourth in the long jump at 19-06.

The rest of the Cheney team, mostly freshmen and sophomores, traveled to Colville for the Ezra Gordon Invitational. Sophomore Justin Baker and freshman Gaige Felix had the only top-10 finishes, Baker eighth in the 800 in 2:20 and Felix 10th in the triple jump at 36-2 1/2.

Finishing just out of the top 10 was freshman Alberto Chavez, 12th in the 110 hurdles and 11th in the high jump.
