Cheney boys rally to top Lakeside 65-62

The Cheney High boys basketball team rallied from a five-point deficit heading into the fourth quarter at Lakeside and overcame a last-second shot to force overtime to knock off the Rams 65-62 last Wednesday.

Cheney led by two at the break but a cold shooting third quarter gave the Rams the five point advantage heading into the final eight minutes, where the Blackhawks led by Najib Rehman, Eric Igbinoba and Theo Petropoulos rallied for a two-point lead. Lakeside’s Connor Moffatt hit a short jumper to force overtime where Cheney prevailed.

The Blackhawks had three scorers in double digits for the second time this season, led by Rehman’s game-high 20, followed by Igbinoba with 15 – to go with 10 rebounds – and Petropoulos 14.

Cheney goes to 3-3 in non-league play, which wraps up Friday (Dec. 28) with a home game against Riverside, 2-6, Cheney’s third Northeast A opponent this season.
