Rakim Brown signs letter of intent to join Eastern basketball program

Rakim Brown, a stat-stuffing 6-

foot-6 forward from Central High

School in Fresno, Calif., has signed

a letter of intent to attend Eastern

Washington University and play

for the Eagles, head coach Kirk

Earlywine has announced.

Brown led Central in points

(20.2), rebounds (7.3), steals (3.5)

and blocks (3.1) this past season to

lead the Grizzlies to a 21-5 record.

Nicknamed “Rocky,” he was a

two-time selection on the Fresno

Bee All-Star Team as he helped

lead his team to the Tri-River Athletic

Conference title in 2009-10.

“I am extremely happy that

Rocky has decided to join us here

at EWU,” Earlywine said. “The

addition of Rocky continues the

rebuilding of our front line with

another athletic player with length

who can play and defend multiple

positions. He has a terrific motor,

an aggressive personality, and the

ability to score from the arc, in the

paint, and at the free throw line.”

Brown is one of five new players

signed by Earlywine and his

staff since last fall. They include

Geoffrey Allen, Jaylen Henry,

Carter Warnock, as well as L.A.

Southwest Junior College transfer

Tremayne Johnson, who has been

attending school at EWU since

January.
