Cardinals GNL baseball split with Hounds

By PAUL DELANEY

Medical Lake started off things

the right way last Friday in Great

Northern League Baseball play,

but it was the finish that killed

the Cardinals.

A two-out single in the bottom

of the sixth inning from Ryan Owens

keyed a four run inning that

broke a 2-2 tie and propelled the Cards to a 6-2 win over Pullman in

the first game of a doubleheader.

Ryan Wagner tossed a complete

game, striking out 10 and walking

one for the Cardinals to go 4-1 on

the season.

Medical Lake’s big inning

started with a Ryan Byrnes’ single.

Josh Harbolt walked and was

sent home on a single by Wagner.

Owens’ base hit chased home both

Harbolt and Wagner and Miller’s

double scored Owens.

Miller collected two hits in the

opener, including that double,

Harbolt also had a pair of hits.

Mike Tripp also hit safely.

The Cardinals picked up

where they left off in game two

as Owens swatted a two-run

home run to center field in the

bottom of the first for a fleeting

2-0 Medical Lake lead. But that

was it. Pullman scored five in their

half of the second, the key blow

Kyle Davison’s three-run homer

to deep left-center. The Hounds

would score in each of the next

four innings, including six in the

sixth that ended it due to the 10-

run rule.

Pullman roughed up ML starting

pitcher Adam Paulson (1-1)

who went three innings and gave

up seven runs. Four Cardinals’

errors helped Pullman’s run production.

Owens and Byrnes each

had a pair of hits in the second

game. Harbolt connected for a

double while Wagner, Miller,

Collins and Dustin Labit each

had singles.
