    The West Plains Bandits 18U softball team finished third in the Silver bracket of the 4th of July Tournament at Spokane's Dwight Merkel Sports Complex, June 30 – July 2. The Bandits lost their first two games in pool play, falling 8-0 to Great Falls (Montana) Xplosion in the opener on Friday and 5-0 to the Montana Avalanche in the first game Saturday morning.     The conclusion of the Medical Lake AA American Legion baseball season was relatively quick. Losses on Saturday, July 8 at Al K. Jackson Field in Spokane, 16-1 to University and 13-10 to East Valley in a double-elimination National Division tournament brings an end to the season.     The West Plains Majors All Stars defeated Riverview last Thursday and Friday nights, July 6-7, to win the District 13 championship and secure a trip to the Washington State Little League Tournament at the National Little League Complex in Federal Way, beginning July 15.     City of Cheney officials have relaxed water restrictions imposed on June 30 after one of its deepest and largest producing wells went down with a mechanical failure. The failure, coupled with very hot weather conditions, sent water levels at the city's five reservoirs plummeting from a normal 25-28 feet to 11.7 feet on July 7. Those levels had been slowly climbing, thanks to residents efforts in adhering to restrictions, and had reached 20.23 feet around 6:45 p.m. Tuesday.     The Happy Hoofers 2017 5k Fun Run attracted 58 participants and raised $945 for Children’s Miracle Network. Runners came from as far away as Michigan and New York.     High-scoring Steven Beo, a former two-time All-State guard from Richland, Wash., will transfer to Eastern Washington University from BYU and play for the Eagle men’s basketball program. New EWU head coach Shantay Legans announced July 7 that Beo has confirmed his intent to enroll at EWU, and will sit out the 2017-18 season and have three years of eligibility after that.
