By JOHN McCALLUM Editor The Medical Lake baseball team's postseason came to a quick end with a 7-5 loss in an opening round, loser-out Great Northern League contest against Cheney last Tuesday, May 8, on the Hawks' on turf. • What a tangled web, this 'Spiderman 3'

More isn't always better, sometimes it's just…more. “Spider Man 3” is more of everything that audiences loved in the first two Spider Man films, making it—a priori—a great Spider Man movie. So, if you loved the first two, you will probably love the third installment as well. Director Sam Raimi is back for the third time, as are all of the main actors: Tobey Maguire as Peter Parker/Spidey, Kirsten Dunst as girlfriend Mary Jane, and James Franco as former-friend-turned-vengeful-enemy Harry. Still a little peeved at Spider-Ma... Full story

  • More pro football? Sounds great, but why the heck Europe?

By JOHN McCALLUM Editor According to an Associated Press wire story last Thursday, the National Football League is engaged in preliminary talks about possibly, maybe, potentially, you never know, it could happen, adding a 17th regular season game – but playing it overseas. This game would most likely be played in Europe or England. It wouldn't happen every weekend or at 16 different venues, but would be kind of a “mini-season ticket” where four games would be played one weekend at say, England's Wembley Stadium, and then anot...

  • CHS softball team ousted at Clarkston

By JOHN McCALLUM Editor Ending a season is never easy, especially if the end comes in a playoff game that should have been won. The Cheney softball team ended their 2007 season with such a game, committing four errors leading to three unearned runs in a 4-2 Great Northern League opening-round playoff game loss last Saturday at Clarkston. Two of those errors came in the Bantams' three-run fifth inning, enabling them to overcome the Lady Hawks 2-1 lead. A lead off throwing error, followed by a single, and then another throwing...

  • Cheney's state dreams die in shootout loss

By MIKE HUFFMAN Staff Reporter Top-10 national rankings and undefeated seasons suddenly don't seem so important in the wake of a shootout loss. Just ask the Cheney Blackhawks. After climbing to a 19-0 undefeated season -- and coming off of shutouts against the Riverside Rams and the Pullman Greyhounds to enter the state 2A tournament – the Blackhawks inexplicably could not put the ball in the net. The result was a 1-0 shootout loss Tuesday that sent the Mustangs to the next round and the Hawks out for the year. “You've got...
