Medical Lake track teams finish out GNL with losses in Colville

Medical Lake's track and field squads closed Great Northern League dual meet action at Colville last Thursday, with the boys and girls both falling to the Indians.

In boys action, seniors Daryl Stolworthy and David Jacob led the Cardinals with a pair of victories. Stolworthy was first in the 200-meter dash (22.8 seconds) and first in the 400 meters (50.9), while Jacob won the 800 meters (2 minutes, 9.1 seconds) and mile run (4:46.1).

The 4x400 meter relay team of Ty Souders, Stolworthy, Kevin Ramson and Jacob beat the Indians, winning in 3:38.7. In the field, sophomore Josh Thompson took the high jump crown at 6 feet, 3 inches, outdueling Colville's Skyler Dumas by an inch in a battle of two returning state meet qualifiers.

Second-place marks for the boys came from Souders in the 200 meters (22.8) and 400 meters (51.7), Stolworthy in the long jump (19-2 1/4), Nathan Jones in the shot put (41-01) and Jeff Caudle in the triple jump (36-10).

Third-place marks were turned in by Souders in the 100 dash (11.4), Caudle in the 200 (24.1), Jones in the discus (96-10) and Thompson in the javelin (131-08).

Sophomore Marissa Propeck led the girls squad, winning two events.

In Propeck's first outing of the year in the 200 dash she blazed in at 26.6 seconds, a mark that puts her seventh in the state among 2A athletes, Cardinal head coach Phil Tennison said. Propeck also won the high jump at 4-08.

Senior Ally Ganyo continued her fast pace in the middle distances, winning the 800 (2:29.0).

Ganyo also helped guide the 4x200 relay team to first, teaming with Propeck, Randi Ruggles and Kelly Alderman for a time of 1:53.5. The 4x400 squad of Lauren Allgood, Madelynn Tapken, Kaitlin McNeill and Marleen Von Der Heiden also won (5:53.7).

Other victories on the girls side came from McNeill in the 400 meters (1:15.3) and Alderman in the triple jump (30-05 1/2).

Second-place marks came from Propeck in the 100 (13.1), Von Der Heiden in the 400 (1:19.7) and Emily Pake in the javelin (76-01).

Third-place marks included Linda Viol in the 200 (34.6) and 400 (1:22.5), Tapken in the 800 (3:05.2), Paige Mahoney in the two-mile (15:44.1), Allgood in the 100 high hurdles (19.0), Melissa Vincent in the shot put (30-05), Pake in the discus (76-07) and McNeill in the long jump (11-11 3/4).

The Cardinals compete at the District 7 meet, Friday and Saturday at Cheney High School.
