Jon Martin Malcolm passed away Dec. 2, 2024 in Airway Heights, Wash.
Jon was born to Kirk W. and Pauline A. Malcolm Sept. 2, 1941, at Newell, S.D.
He was married to Sandra Winchell in 1959, and they both attended Colorado State University where they graduated in 1963, Jon with a degree in wildlife management.
He was remarried in 1975 to Inez McConnell.
Jon came to love wildlife at an early age and was employed by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service in 1962. He served for 32 years on the National Wildlife Refuges in Texas, Oklahoma, Nebraska, Washington, North Dakota and Montana. He retired in 1994 after 13 years as manager of the National Bison Range.
He began raising thoroughbred race horses in 1992, and ran them at several tracks in Montana and Washington in subsequent years.
Jon was preceded in death by his brother, parents and wife Inez. He is survived by sons, Brady and Doug; step-daughters, Jennifer and Kelley; five grandchildren, three great-grandchildren and numerous step-grandchildren and step-great children.
There are no services planned.
A future remembrance date is to be determined.
