Graciela Tiscareno-Sato's bilingual "Capt. Mama" aviation trilogy inspired her decade of aviation service based on the West Plains
FAIRCHILD AIR FORCE BASE – Award-winning author Graciela Tiscareno-Sato, the first Latina aviator in the U.S. Air Force, will be at SkyFest this weekend to encourage youngsters to follow in her aviation footsteps.
Known as "Capt. Mama" in airshow and school assembly circles, Tiscareno-Sato is a recipient of the Air Medal for combat air operations over Iraq. She is a bilingual, living-history science, technology, engineering and mathematics engagement performer who shares her unusual daughter-of-Mexican-immigrants-to-military-aviator journey and resources as a guide for how students can launch their own aviation careers.
She was previously stationed at Fairchild for eight years and flew with two different squadrons as an aircraft navigator and instructor.
She will be having a meet-and-greet booth at SkyFest this weekend.
The bilingual author will also be giving away children's books and hosting activities. The first 500 families to visit her booth will receive a complimentary book.
According to Tiscareno-Sato, you will be able to capture the colorful action of children wearing real flights worn by an aviation veteran, being inspired to fly and receiving their free books.
She said she wants to share an inspirational story of a bilingual Latina military aviation veteran who's created an award-winning small business to uplift communities in two languages and help millions more Americans fall in love with aviation and military service.
