CHENEY — Betz Elementary School interim Principal Mary Stoyko will officially take the lead role at the school with the start of the next school year, July 1.

Stoyko was officially selected for the job during the May 10 Cheney School Board meeting.

“I am honored to continue my journey as a Betz Viking in the 23-24 school year as the principal of Betz Elementary,” Stoyko said. “I am a Betz Viking through and through, eager to serve Betz students, staff and the community in this new capacity.”

Stoyko has been Betz assistant principal since the fall of 2020 and is serving as interim principal through the end of the school year.

Prior to working at Betz, Stoyko was a principal designee/intern at Brentwood Elementary in the Mead School District.

Before that, she was a teacher in the Mead, Central Valley (Spokane Valley) and Federal Way school districts.

Stoyko has a bachelor’s degree in elementary education from City University in Seattle and a master’s degree in educational leadership from Concordia University.
