CHENEY – Dozens of students from across the region will be at Eastern Washington University’s Hargreaves Hall early Friday morning, May 12, for the 2023 West Plains PACE Awards ceremony.

The event runs from 7-8:30 a.m.

PACE, or Partners Advancing Character Education, is a grassroots initiative that encourages good character through partnership with schools and other agencies. The organization works from a common list of monthly character traits like integrity, honesty and citizenship.

Students with exemplary character traits from Cheney, Medical Lake, Davenport and Harrington schools will be recognized during the event.

They will select on of their peers to earn special recognition for their outstanding character, organizers said.

Cheney schools PACE Coordinator Kelley Hinrichs said the students and their families will be treated to a gala breakfast.

In addition to the awards, a jazz band will be performing, Hinrichs said.

While doors open at 7 a.m., the official welcome begins at 7:30 a.m., followed by the National Anthem and introductions.

Following a keynote speech, students will begin receiving their awards at about 7:50 a.m.
