Rosalia reader board in the works

ROSALIA - The Rosalia Lions Club and SignCorp, of Spokane have set up a new electronic reader board for the community.

Lions Club member Mary Widman said they hope connections for the electrical connections will happen next week.

The Lions Club came up with the idea to pursue funding for an electronic reader board in the early 2000s, Widman said. There wasn't adequate funding, so they dismissed the idea.

After Babb Road Fire raced across Whitman County on Sept. 7, 2020, Widman said the club believed that a local electronic bulletin board would have been valuable for delivering emergency alert messages since many residents don't use social media.

Fundraising resumed.

"The entire process took much longer than expected, but we are happy with the newest technological advances," she said.

When complete, the electronic bulletin board will be used for community announcements.

Clubs, school, and church events will be free, but the Lions Club will charge a small fee for business advertising or special event announcements such as birthdays or anniversaries, which she stated will defray the cost of power.

Widman said those who wish to add an announcement should see the Rosalia City Hall, and the Lions Club is accepting donations.

"We are excited to add this positive asset to our community," she said.
