Kayla Ramsey now owns the best time ever at Medical Lake in the 1,600-meter run.

The Medical Lake track team returned from the Ray Cockrum Relays in Wenatchee with a number of personal records but one set of very special numbers.

Cardinals' senior distance runner Kayla Ramsey broke the school's 28-year record for the 1,600 meters, March 25 at Wenatchee High School.

As the senior crossed the finish line ahead of a trio of other local competitors in a time of 5 minutes, 18.51 seconds she eclipsed the long-held mark of Cardinal Athletic Hall of Fame member Amie Poteet, a 5:22.8 set in 1995.

Tenaya Belsby (5:37.35) and Hannah Ward (5:38.35), both of Cheney, and the Cardinals' Jenna Castro (5:40.00) led a sweep of the top spots, each establishing a personal record.

Castro also clocked a 5:40.00 placing fourth overall in the 1600 and cracked the top-10 as the sixth fastest time at ML for that distance.

Liam Earl landed in first place in the javelin with a throw of 154 feet, 11 inches and moved up to the third spot on the MLHS top-10 list. He also threw the shot put 43 feet, 10 inches for a PR.

The Cardinal sprint medley team of Elijah Scott, Josh Henry, Brayden Dimick and Milan Conteras ran the second fastest time at school history in 1:49.6 and a sixth-place finish to North Creek's 1:37.52.

The girls distance medley team of Jasmine Cruz, Kaitlyn Wiley, Hazel Grubaugh and Kaylee Dennler moved into the fourth fastest all time in 14:51.77. Lake Stevens (13:15.21) and Cheney (13:34.31) were the top finishers.

Overall, 15 personal records were set.

Medical Lake will continue preparation for its Northeast A League opening meet April 12 at Deer Park with Freeman. The Cardinals will be competing in the Glen wolf Invitational at Deer Park, Friday, March 31.

Then on Saturday, April 1, team members will be doing a community service project by supervising the "Only Fools Run at Midnight 5k", sponsored by the ML Lions Club.
