Cheney Capstone Coffee sold to local business owners

CHENEY - Capstone Coffee was sold on Dec. 15 to Tom and Kendra Littau and Amanda Swenson. It will be operating under the name Serendipity Coffee upon arrival of appropriate signage.

“The new signage will be up soon.” Rhonda Kissack, former owner of Capstone Coffee, said. “They’re planning to keep the staff and the brand of coffee we had before the sale, which is great.”

Kendra Littau, co-owner of Serendipity Coffee, said “It’s our first business, my sister and I. We really like drinking coffee, of course, and financially speaking it looked like a great investment.”

Kendra said that supporting the community is important to their family. “Giving back to the city that raised is is very important.” She said.

Previous to the sale of the business, Capstone Coffee’s history in Cheney began 28 years ago. Adam and Rhonda Kissack opened a Jacob’s Java in 1994 on 1st St. in Cheney. The Kissacks moved to the current location on Simpson Parkway Dr. in 1998. They re-branded and became Capstone Coffee in 2008 and have been operating under that name ever since.

Speaking of the sale and the transition to Serendipity Coffee, Rhonda Kissack said “It was just time to consolidate and move on with several aspects of our lives.” The Kissacks are still operating the Spokane Capstone Coffee location as of the writing of this article.

“It’s been a joy to make coffee and run a business in the town I grew up in. My heart will always be in Cheney. We raised three sons here and we have many “capstone kids” from over the years.
