Inferno wings closes, owner plans to open new restaurant next year

Rising food costs forced closure.

CHENEY – Inferno wings, on 401 1st St., closed its doors on Dec. 2 due to rising food costs and other issues. Derek Baziotis, owner of the establishment, will soon open a new restaurant in the same location.

“With the way that the economy is working right now, especially in food service, costs increasing, labor, we had to make the difficult choice.” Baziotis said.

The restaurant officially opened in its current location in May of 2022, after having operated out of another Cheney establishment, Bene’s, during the pandemic from 2020.

“We had it running as a ghost restaurant out of Bene’s during the pandemic, and we opened at the corner location as things became more successful. But wing prices continued to rise and it became infeasible to keep running.” Baziotis said.

“We had to make the choice between forestalling the inevitable and being proactive. I didn’t see the price of our product coming down enough before we have to close.”

The prices of the primary product sold at Inferno wings were continuing to rise, making it more difficult to remain competitive.

“Our prices were consistently lower than places like Buffalo Wild Wings, for example. It just wasn’t enough.” Baziotis said.

“The good news is that we are going to re-brand and try another concept.” Baziotis said. “We are starting from scratch with a new idea, and we have to have inspectors and everybody out again so, it’ll be a while, but we’re not going anywhere.”

This new concept restaurant will be in the same location, and Baziotis speculates that it may open early next year.

“I don’t want to make any promises, but we want to provide something that’s missing in Cheney, something new and affordable. Consistency is my priority, and we just couldn’t stay consistent with prices being what they were.”

Baziotis said that he is thankful to the community and that we should be on the look out for their new venture soon.
