Our town was run down at the heels and everyone lived just this side of disaster but that didn’t mean we weren’t proud of what we had. We picked up trash, kept wayward weeds mowed down, nurtured our gardens, plants and trees in the summer, and shoveled snow in the winter. If we had “means” our little town would have sparkled. Everyone did their part in helping each other live lives that needed to be lived. Some, those passing through, said that we were needy. We weren’t!
