On a Monday night in 1935, 16 year old Lyn Pierson wandered into the Cheney police station hoping to find shelter and food, a Free Press article of the time opens.

Lyn had been living in Genesee, ID with his aunt and uncle before he decided to run away and move to California.

After school on that very Monday morning, with 50 cents in his pocket, Pierson hitched a ride down to Moscow. From there he was able to find another ride to Spokane, but was forced to walk the rest of the way to Cheney.
