CHENEY – Women’s Auxiliary will be hosting a dinner for veterans who are members of Post 72, to be held at the Wren Pierson building. The event begins at 5p.m. and ends at 7:30p.m. on Nov. 11.

“We haven’t done it in a while because of COVID, but this will be the third dinner we’ve hosted.” Margy Foland, the First Vice President of the auxiliary, said.

Cheney middle school students made thank you cards to honor the veterans, which will be given out at the dinner. Also in attendance will be the members of a leadership class from Cheney high school. “They will be assisting us with decorations, set up and break down.” Foland said.

A drawing will be held for the veterans and the prize item is a “quilt of valor,” made by a volunteer member of a local Cheney quilting club.

A senior from Cheney high school choir, Violet Lincoln, will be singing the national anthem. “Violet has a lovely voice, and we’re just so happy to have her.”

Boy scout troop No. 356 will also be attendance to present the colors and to help with set up and breakdown.

Mike Hartman, a local caterer, is donating the main course for the dinner and his labor. “He’s a very generous guy who is a respected member of the American Legion.” Foland said.

Following the dinner, Foland said, there will be a social hour at the legion post itself on College Dr.
