“Find out how electrical circuits work while playing with play dough to make squishy circuits! Ages 8–12.” Is the tagline for this event.

Also on the docket for Nov. 4 and 5 respectively, are the Family Play & Learn Storytime (10:30a.m.), and Friends of the Cheney Library Book Sale events (10:00a.m.)

Jane Baker, Communication Director of Spokane County Libraries, said that “We are just so happy that the story time sessions are in-person again, it’s really such an important thing to do live with parents and kids.”

Local Alpha Delta Kappa chapter holds luncheon for October

Nancy Abel

CHENEY - The month of October is Alpha Delta Kappa (ADK) month. This is an honorary women’s educator organization that impacts teachers, students and parents in our community. Alpha Nu is the ADK chapter made up of current and retired teachers in Cheney and Medical Lake School Districts. This month, Alpha Nu provided each of the schools in our area with treats, thanking the teachers and educational staff for their commitment and dedication to students.

Alpha Nu members raise funds to support several local nonprofit organizations like Northwest Harvest, the Christmas Bureau, Hope House and Embrace Washington. The organization also purchases baby bottles and diapers for children in need, creates treasure boxes for foster children and helps to furnish shelters with clothing and needed furniture and supplies. Each year ADK offers a scholarship for teachers working on advanced degrees and for college students in the education program at a university, sends money to schools to purchase needed supplies, and buys hats and mittens for the schools in the winter.

Alpha Nu, the local chapter of Alpha Delta Kappa, works hard and is proud to support the families in our community in as many ways as they can. Happy ADK Month!
