Carson Jeffries appears to be safe at first, but the field umpire saw it differently and called him out.

CHENEY- Cheney got back on the winning track, defeating the team's three opponents last week.

Coming into the games, the Blackhawks had dropped six in a row and were outscored 53-9. But the team found its groove and dominated two games with Ridgeline by a combined 15-3 score and taking a 6-4 contest from North Central.

The three victories landed Cheney in a fourth-place finish in league play and qualified the team for the postseason.

"Our turnaround was due to getting back to competing on every pitch-it also helps to get Quinn Hubbs back and throwing well," Coach Rob Beamer said. "We've now qualified for the district crossover game against the No. 1 team in the state, Kennewick on Saturday, at 1 p.m."

The crossover tournament is a double-elimination contest.

The Blackhawks posted the first run on the board in the road game against the Falcons on Tuesday, April 26. Ridgeline brought two runners across the dish in the bottom of the first inning to take its only lead in the contest.

Cheney knotted it in the top of the third on a one-out line drive single to left field by Quinn Hubbs, scoring Carter McPherson from second base.

Two runs in the top of the fifth and sixth innings salted the game away for the Blackhawks. Hubbs and McPherson led the offensive attack, combining five hits in seven plate appearances.

Tate Hueschkel went the distance on the bump, pitching a two-hitter with two strikeouts and two walks.

Ridgeline 1

Cheney recorded its second win in as many games in a lopsided affair at home on Thursday, April 28.

The Blackhawks took an early lead scoring a run in the bottom of the first inning. The Falcons evened it in 1–1 in the top of the second.

Cheney took a 2-1 lead in the bottom of the third on a leadoff double to right field by Nate Mitzinberg-Boyer and a Tyler Ashcroft single to center. A McPherson double to put runners on second and third base. Ashcroft then scored on a Jamel Chabot ground out to the Ridgeline shortstop to make it 3-1 for the home team. A single to left by Hubb brought McPherson across the plate to widen the gap to 4-1.

The Blackhawks added three more runs in the home half of the fourth on RBI from Clayton Wood, Ashcroft and Jamel Chabot to make it 7-1 Cheney. The Blackhawks posted two runs on the board in the bottom of the sixth to run away with it.

Hubbs got the start and the win, giving up seven hits, two walks and fanning 10 Falcons in seven innings of work.

North Central 4

The game at North Central on April 29 was the closest of the three contests. Cheney fell behind 3-0 after the first two innings were in the books. But a run in the top of the third and fourth innings tightened the ball game, 3-2. The Blackhawks hung three runs on the board in the top of the fifth on an RBI double by Hubbs and an Isaac Nesbitt single to take the lead, 5-3.

Cheney held North Central off the board in the bottom of the frame and then added another run in the top of the sixth to push the Blackhawks' lead to 6-3. The Indians threatened in the home half of the seven, scoring a run with one out, but ended up stranding two on base and Cheney chalked up the come from behind win.

McPherson got the start on the hill going three innings, giving up three runs, walking three and striking out six North Central batters. Ashcroft came on in relief and was credited with the win giving up one run, four hits, four walks and punching out four Falcons.

Cheney matched up with North Central at home on Tuesday, May 3, but the game results were not available by press time.
