Cheney Baseball continues to struggle

CHENEY-The Blackhawks losing streak has extended to seven straight after dropping games to U-High and Gonzaga Prep last week.

Cheney is now 4-10 in league competition, 4-12 overall, and is in eighth place in the GSL standings.

The Blackhawks were shut out, 4-0, at home by the Titans on April 19. Cheney lost a twin bill to the Bullpups by scores of 7-4 and 3-2 on April 21 and 22.

The team's ace lefty Quinn Hobbs, who has been nursing a back injury, turned in a strong performance in the second game against G-Prep.

"Quinn held them to one run over six innings," Coach Rob Beamer said. "We're glad he is back and feeling better."

The Bullpups put the first run on the board in the bottom of the third inning. The 1-0 score held up until

Hobbs singled in Tyler Ashcroft in the top of the fifth to knot it at 1-1. The Blackhawks posted an unearned run in the top of the seventh when the G-Prep third baseman mishandled a hard-hit grounder off the bat of Jamel Chabot, scoring Nate Mitzinberg-Boyer to take a 2-1 lead.

The Bullpups evened it in the bottom of the frame to send the game to extra innings.

Cheney failed in the top of the eighth. The Bullpups pushed a run across the dish in the home half of the inning to win it.

The Blackhawks hosted Ridgeline Tuesday, looking to right their ship and get back in the win column. The results of the game were not available at press time.
