Nancy K. Madison

Nancy K. Madison peacefully passed away March 18, 2022, at Hospice House in Spokane following a courageous and long battle with Scleroderma; she was surrounded by family. She was born April 27, 1943, in Cuba, NY to Ethelyn P. and Russel E. Eichelberger and raised in Friendship, NY where her mother taught kindergarten following her father's death in World War II.

Nancy was a graduate of Friendship High School, SUNY College at Buffalo (BS), and Case Western Reserve University (MA). During a 50-year career as an audiologist, primarily pediatric, Nancy worked in several settings including Cleveland and San Diego. Hearing and Speech Centers, in Connecticut at Newington Children's Hospital and Gaylord Rehabilitation Hospital, in several ENT offices, and, for a year, as a visiting faculty member of the ENT department of the National University of Malaysia Medical School. Since moving to Spokane in 1990, Nancy served as the audiologist at Lakeland Village, the educational audiologist in the Cheney and East Valley schools, and on assignment for District 81, ESD 101, and the Washington State Outreach Program, where she served hearing impaired children in a number of school districts throughout Washington.

Always active in professional affairs; Nancy served on the board of directors of the Connecticut and Washington Speech, Language, Hearing Associations and the National Educational Audiology Association (EAA). She was an honoree of the Washington Speech, Language, Hearing Association and past President of EAA. Until health precluded, Nancy was an active member of the Cheney/Medical Lake Alpha Nu chapter of Alpha Delta Kappa, the International Teachers' Honorary Sorority.

With all her professional accomplishments, Nancy was most passionate about her six grandchildren. Providing them with her full support in all their activities. Her grandchildren have many wonderful memories of Grandma Nancy, and will never forget the impact she had on them. In addition, she enjoyed cooking, gardening, reading, and spending time with family and friends.

In addition to her parents, Nancy was preceded in death by her sister Karen Yagielski (John) of Mechanicville, NY. She is survived by husband Charles (Chuck) Madison of Spokane, by daughters Demeris Skaggs (Erik) of Liberty Lake, WA and Ginger Druffel (Russ) of Pullman. WA, by grandchildren Connor and Katelynn Skaggs and Cole, Grant, Madison, and Riley Druffel.
