Blackhawks' Evan Stinson named First-Team All-League

CHENEY – Evan Stinson, Cheney's 6'5" sophomore guard/forward, was selected First-Team All GSL League by 11 Greater Spokane League coaches. team.

Stinson had an outstanding season for Cheney, holding his own against some of the states' best players. Playing in 16 of 19 game this season (missed three for COVID protocol), he scored 370 points (23.1 ave), shoot 55% from the field and 38% from the 3-point line. Stinson also made 72% of his free-throws and pulled down 88 rebounds.

Jim Redmon, Lewis and Clark's veteran coach praised Stinson's abilities on the court.

"He is one of the most gifted 6'5" guards that have passed through the GSL in a long time," Redmon said. "He can play any position and has a great basketball IQ."

James Whiteley, the Blackhawks assistant coach added, "His award is well deserved. We are looking forward to watching him get even better next year."

Stinson comes from a long line of basketball aficionados and according to family members, has not spent many moments without a basketball in his hands. His dad Mark Stinson was University High's girl coach for 18 seasons. His grandfather, Jim Stinson, was a long time coach at Northwest Christian and Davenport. His aunt, Jennifer (Stinson) Greeny, starred at Davenport and is Washington State University's head volleyball coach. His brother Mason will be joining him on the Blackhawks' team next season as a freshman.

Stinson's spring will be spent chasing the golf ball on Cheney High's golf team. He will show his ambidexterity, as he is a left-handed golfer. He'll spend his summer playing AAU basketball, with and against some of the best in the GSL, as well as the rest of the country.

The Cheney girl's team also received some post-season honors, as junior Shuana Elliott and sophomore Paige Evans were on the GSL honorable mention list.
