Cheney library offers art shows, science and story times

CHENEY -- The local library is offering artists a chance to be creative and display their artworks in a mini art show and virtual art show in January.

The mini art show is where registered participants are asked to submit a 3-inch by 3-inch piece of family-friendly art to display. The library will have paint supply kits and a mini canvas.

Submissions will be photographed and included in the virtual art show online.

Supplies can be picked up any time after Jan. 3-21; registration closes Jan. 20. Submissions are due before Jan. 29.

The art show will be available online from Feb. 4-28.

There will also be a Virtual Art Show, where registered participants of all ages can send a photo of a hand-drawn, sculpted, painted or built family-friendly art piece with the theme of “Happiness”. Participants can submit their digital entry via the library website.

Participants must register online by 6 p.m. Jan. 28. Submissions are due by Jan. 29.

The “Happiness” themed virtual art show will be available online from Feb. 7-28.

Budding scientists ages 8 and older can join in the library fun when librarian Molly shares an science experiment online that viewers can do from home using common household materials at 11 a.m. Saturdays in January.

There will also be story time activities for children.

Story time Lego, Live online and Shorts.

In Lego Story Time, registered participants of all ages and families can enjoy a read along from 4-4:45 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 4 and Tuesday, Jan. 18.

After the story is over, participants can recreate a character, scene or setting from the story using LEGO bricks or other crafting materials from home, and share those creations with the group.

For children ages 2-5 and their families, registered participants can have fun learning online while they listen to stories, sing songs, and engage in finger plays every Thursday in January from 6:30- 7 p.m. and every Friday from 9:30-10 a.m.

Young children can also enjoy Story Time Shorts online every Tuesday and Thursday at 10 a.m.

During Story Time Shorts, children ages 2-5 can learn language, literacy, and science and math skills to help them prepare for kindergarten..
