Liberty football team upended in Brewster

SPANGLE – The Liberty Lancers girls volleyball team is headed to the Class 2B state volleyball tournament in the Yakima Valley SunDome.
The local girls are seeded No. 13 and will open state play against No. 4-seed Goldendale at 9:45 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 11.
The Lancers earned a spot in the state tournament after sweeping both the Asotin Panthers and the Jenkins (Chewelah) Cougars in the final two games of the District 7 tournament Thursday, Nov. 4.
The Lancers opened district with a 3-2 win over Jenkins, but lost in the semifinals to Lind-Ritzville/Sprague/Washtucna, 3-2.
Dropped to the loser-out consolation rounds, they swept the Panthers and Cougars for a state berth, the last qualifying spot in the Northeast 2B league.
The other NE2B teams making it to state are No. 2-seeded Colfax and No. 10-seeded Lind-Ritzville.
Lind-Ritzville opens state against No. 7 Raymond and Colfax opens with No. 15 Wahkiakum.
Those games start at 9:45 a.m., too, in the SunDome.
Liberty football
The Liberty Lancers football season came to an end last Friday, Nov. 5, in a District 6/7 crossover game at Brewster.
The Brewster Bears won that game, 41-6.
