Cheney swimmers win district

Team advances several swimmers to state

KELSO – Blackhawk swimmers brought home the championship trophy from the district meet Saturday.

Coach Jennifer Hochwalt. said several competitors set team records and many qualified for the state meet in Federal Way.

Janie Richards finished first and set a team record in the 200-meter freestyle at 1:57.16 and Joyalise O’Dell finished second with a time of 1:58.58.

Hochwalt said both swimmers qualified for state in the event.

O’Dell would also take silver in the 500-meter freestyle with a state qualifying time of 5:26.82.

The 50-meter freestyle was won by Lauren Howe with a time...
