Blackhawks soccer to face Southridge

CHENEY – The Cheney Blackhawks girls soccer team will host the Southridge (Kennewick) Sun in a loser-out game at 3 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 4.

The Blackhawks (8-8) are coming off a 6-0 loss to Mount Spokane on Oct. 30.

Southridge (11-7) is coming off a 1-0 win over Hermiston, Ore.

On Oct. 6, the local girls topped the Walla Walla Blue Devils, 3-1, in the District 8 tournament.

Lancer girls named academic state champion

SPANGLE – The Liberty High School’s girls volleyball team has been named the Washington Interscholastic Activities Association’s Class 2B academic state champion.

The 12-girl team maintained a cumulative grade-point average of 3.922, according to the WIAA.

“This group of students has always done well academically and they thought it would be great to get a banner in the classroom,” Coach Kacie Tee said.

Spokane River launch closing for winter

POST FALLS – The Q’emiln Park boat launch ramp on the Spokane River will close for the season Monday, Nov. 8.

The ramp upstream of the Post Falls Hydroelectric Development closes each year in mid-November due to weather and dropping water levels.

The ramp re-opens in the late spring or early summer, depending on the amount of in-flow into Coeur d’Alene Lake.
