Carol Louise Petersen

“Granny”

Sept. 1, 1945 - Oct. 10, 2021

Carol Louise Petersen was born in Wallace, Idaho and after living for a short time in Davenport and Sprague Wash., returned to Wallace to graduate in 1963. After graduation she worked at the Idaho First National Bank where she met her future husband Larry Petersen, a teacher at Wallace High School. She had her first son, Sam, while living in Wallace and in 1967 she and Larry moved to Medical Lake where they had their next two sons Ben and Joe.

Carol worked as a library aide and assistant secretary in the Medical Lake School District for 31 years, retiring in 2010. She was very active in St. Anne’s Catholic Church using her creative skills to make banners and other items. Carol loved the outdoors and much of her childhood was spent in Camp Bay on Lake Pend Oreille. She and Larry spent their honeymoon hunting at the lake cabin where she got her buck, but Larry didn’t. Larry and Carol spent many years camping, hunting, and fishing for steelhead. They also enjoyed the many trips they made to Reno and Las Vegas, eating great food and doing a “little” gambling.

Carol loved to host family gatherings and enjoyed anything that had to do with her grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, Ed and Fran Hoffman, her oldest sister Sue, and grandson Ricky. She is survived by her husband of 56 years Larry, her sons Sam (Sandy), Ben (Tena), Joe, and her sister Becky as well as her grandchildren Dean, Nicole, Brayden, Avery, and Ian. Carol was a loving wife, mother, and granny, she will be greatly missed by her family.

A vigil will be held at St. Anne’s Catholic Church on 708 East Lake Street in Medical Lake on Wed., Oct. 27 at 5:00 PM. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Anne’s on Thur., Oct. 28 at 10:00 AM. A luncheon will follow the mass with the inurnment of Carol at Holy Cross Cemetery in Spokane at 1:00 PM.

In lieu of flowers the family would ask that any contributions be made to St. Anne’s Church or Hospice of Spokane.
