A semi-truck struck the US 2 overpass at Geiger Boulevard, damaging both the east and west bound lanes of the overpass and closing the boulevard between West Lawton Road and Sunset Highway.
SPOKANE – Travelers who use Geiger Boulevard in Spokane between Sunset Highway and Lawton Road will need to find alternate routes after an over-height load struck both east and westbound US 2 over Geiger Boulevard.

Traffic crews detour traffic from Geiger Boulevard on Thursday afternoon after a semi-truck struck the U.S. Highway 2 overpass.
Due to significant damage of the eastbound US 2 bridge structure over Geiger Boulevard, crews have made the decision out of an abundance of caution, to close Geiger Boulevard until further notice.
The closure of Geiger Boulevard is necessary due to the potential for debris to fall onto Geiger Boulevard caused by vibrations of vehicles passing over the top on US 2.
At this time, eastbound US 2 has also been reduced to one lane over Geiger Boulevard until crews can fully inspect the damage. There is no estimated time as to when Geiger Boulevard or the secondary lane on US 2 will reopen.
By law, vehicle operators are responsible for knowing their vehicle height as well as bridge heights along their route. WSDOT's online Bridge Vertical Clearance Trip Planner tool provides a way to map a route for over-height vehicles.
