First responders discuss aspects of a rescue of a man who fell down a shaft at Cheney's ADM Mills Wednesday afternoon.

CHENEY - A man was injured at the Adm Milling Company on 1st Street Wednesday afternoon after falling backwards into a 4-foot-by-4-foot hole while cleaning excess grain in a recess beneath the loading floor. The Cheney Fire Department reacted quickly and began preparations for movement to a medical facility, but after a few minutes, the injured worker was able to stand and walked away from the incident.

Other than a sore back, additional injuries are undetermined. The man is expected undergo further medical examination.

Cheney Fire Chief Tom Jenkins commended the mill for following safety guidelines and praised first responders for their quick response and precise care.

"I'm really proud of how these guys reacted out here," Jenkins said.
