Driver killed in collision near South Thomas Mallon Road

WEST PLAINS — An adult male was killed in a one-car accident last Thursday evening, June 10, near South Thomas Mallon Road.

According to a Spokane County Sheriff’s Office release, emergency personnel responded to a report of a vehicle that had left the roadway and crashed through a backyard fence of a residence on the 9100 block of West Sugar Street. Initial information indicated the vehicle, a 2018 Tesla, was northbound on South Thomas Mallon Road at a high rate of speed as it approached the intersection with Hallett Road.

The vehicle, driven by an adult male in his 30s, did not slow down and continued through the stop sign at the intersection. The driver lost control of the Tesla, which slid off the roadway into a vacant lot before crashing through the fence of the residence on West Sugar Street.

The driver, who was apparently not the owner of the Tesla, died at the scene. An adult male passenger was provided medical attention but declined treatment and was not transported to a medical facility. The passenger said he told the driver repeatedly to slow down.

The Spokane County Medical Examiner had not released the deceased driver’s name or additional details as of press time June 15. The incident is still under investigation.
