Blackhawks band fundraising for activities and equipment

CHENEY — Doing a little spring clothes closet cleaning?

If so, the Cheney High School Band Parents organization is asking you to donate those items to their annual fundraising drive. And even if you hadn’t planned on creating more room in your closet, the parents and band members would appreciate any clothes no longer needed by dropped off at any of three locations during four upcoming dates.

The band is looking for gently-used, re-sellable men’s, women’s and children’s clothing, coats, shoes, scarves, handbags, wallets, backpacks, fashion accessories, ties, belts and any household textiles such as bedding towels, tablecloths and more. The items can be dropped off at three locations: Cheney High School, Sunset Elementary School in Airway Heights and Westwood Middle School at the corner of South Abbott and Hallett roads.

There are four collection dates planned for all locations: Thursday, April 15 from 6 – 8 p.m.; Saturday, April 17 from 9 a.m. – noon; Thursday, June 3, from 6 – 8 p.m. and Saturday, June 5, from 9 a.m. – noon. Band trailers will be set up at the high school and elementary school with the band’s black bus at Westwood.

Funds raised help the band maintain instruments, equipment and vehicles along with providing for band camp and competition meals, props and flags, uniforms and travel costs. While COVID-19 forced the band to cancel its fundraiser and performances and competitions last year, they are hoping to perform for the community this year either with a concert at the new high school auditorium or outdoors at the high school’s Tom Oswald Field.
